i saw
the rains had come
to chase the sun—
clouds
grey twilight wolves
moon is gathered in
the veil
starlight tarries
where it will
the shadows do come
home to me
and so the room is
empty no longer
no corner lit to
hold a dream
nor the very thought
of you
for long
this window
frames the perfect page
to save me the usual
thousand words
See a pic you weave
ReplyDeleteOne that will never leave
For I'm sure the 1000 word wage
Will never leave your page
When I look at the changeful sky I am always wondering if there can be any new words to describe it--you find them here. Mood indigo, with moonlight as a chaser.
ReplyDeleteI like the clouds as grey twilight wolves...and that last stanza is perfect for the shadowy moon night ~
ReplyDeleteah but your picture speaks well beyond its frame...really a lovely piece....the sky def is def one show i can sit and never be bored in the watching...
ReplyDeleteI love this, beautiful.

Even your shorter poems carry such beautiful words and deeper emotion than one first senses on the surface. Lovely, Steve. Your poetry never disappoints!
Such a beautifully lyric poem - the internal rhymes and general cadence work so very well. There's such a poignancy in it - and you are spare in your picture - I love the way the wolves are themselves clouds - I think that's what they are - but also very metaphoric here. Really well done. k.
ReplyDeleteThe window frames a perfect page....STEVE! This is soooo good...love it!
ReplyDeleteVery melodic without being singsong; modern without being overdone, esoteric in a refreshing way. Loved it.
ReplyDeletemade me smile...saving you a thousand words...i like
