Tomorrow

I know tomorrow
will come round to me.

Always.

Rising in the wake
of that last receding dream;
puddled in the spreading tide of sunrise.

Tomorrow,
all the same.

Each awakened word a fair reminder,
fanfare of echoes
full of new meanings
and the same old tricks to betray.

All tomorrow,
everything you say.

Tomorrow always
feels like yesterday.

  1. What a refrain you make of tomorrow here, Steve--very melodic, the whole poem songlike and fresh to the ear. There's an up here, and a definite down as well in the last two stanzas which bring the poem to earth in a sharp resolution. A pleasure to read your work, as always.

  2. This reads so beautifully and the ending has real impact. As Joy notes, there is an Up, and then a definite Down. Well done. I enjoyed it.

  3. Another day to try again, much like the day before. I liked the form of this and the message.

  4. The tomorrow is just a relentless repetition.. of a yesterday. I get a feeling that feels very much like February.. but hang in soon the change from day to day will be apparent..

  5. The last few lines change the tone of the poem completely. A bit of melancholy there.

  7. Beautiful poem-- you manage to capture the almost tragic aspects of certainty of the future. Fanfare of echoes is such an original description. Thanks. Me. (Manicddaily)

  9. Lots to think about here....especially the idea that tomorrow often feels like yesterday. Interesting that tomorrow always comes, but often it is a continuation of the day before! Enjoyed.

  12. there's always tomorrow... well, until... yeah, you know... that's why it's best to live and try your best today, and if you happen to get another day, don't carry what you wish you would've done different with you

  14. Life can be discouraging, Steve. We look forward to hope and better.
Then when it comes, "Blah!". I was caught up in the waiting, again.

  19. "Tomorrow always
    feels like yesterday."

There's something so melancholy in these words, like that movie "Groundhog Day." Reliving the "same day" over and over again. Sometimes it takes a very long time to get out of that kind of rut, and it happens so slowly that you don't realize it until you notice the echoes are gone and the day feels clear once more. Beautifully captured, Steve.
