Old Fashions will sometimes suffice
to thaw this frozen writer’s ice.
Wine upholds me, in a pinch,
but rarely moves my pen an inch.
Brandy, Bourbon, Single Malt—
they stir my spirits to a fault.
But one Martini, every time,
amends my meter, rights my rhyme.
A new poem for the Poetry Pantry

ReplyDeleteNow this is a fun New Year's poem! Made me smile.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Steve!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a successful 2017.
I'm almost reading it like a menu, all sounds good but I've been hung up on Baileys and Kalhua lately. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLovely write!❤️ Happy New Year Steve :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year - Let me pour you a martini and see where your words go. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHi Steve--I am not not sure that my comment got through--anyway, what a clever write! I quite enjoyed this! Happy new year!
ReplyDeletePerfect! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHa ha – so you'd recommend it then? Perhaps it's the ONE that is effective. In my heavier drinking days, I used to say that I wrote with my pen dipped in wine. Sometimes that was great for lifting the lid off the subconscious, but too much and next morning I'd discover I had written gibberish!
ReplyDeleteFun! Keep up your spirits in 2017!
