The Cocktail Hour

Old Fashions will sometimes suffice
to thaw this frozen writer’s ice.

Wine upholds me, in a pinch,
but rarely moves my pen an inch.

Brandy, Bourbon, Single Malt—
they stir my spirits to a fault.

But one Martini, every time,
amends my meter, rights my rhyme.

  4. I'm almost reading it like a menu, all sounds good but I've been hung up on Baileys and Kalhua lately. Happy New Year!

  8. Ha ha – so you'd recommend it then? Perhaps it's the ONE that is effective. In my heavier drinking days, I used to say that I wrote with my pen dipped in wine. Sometimes that was great for lifting the lid off the subconscious, but too much and next morning I'd discover I had written gibberish!
