Release

Release.
A notion,
altogether.

Remembered,
the ways
I gently betrayed
some things and those moments,
the castaway times.

A strange flight from language
and every reply
that never made sense.

Awakened at last,
from old sweating dreams,
not quite memory,
but grown more real
with each new escape,
immersed in remains
of my clever refrains.

Still, daytimes I long
for night’s comforting chains.

  2. Dreams or memories or a combination of both. Sometimes, dreams are a sanctuary when life is painful and then again dreams can be painful and awakening comfortable. Depends on the journey I think.

  3. I love this Steve. Such a comfort they are, an escape surely from our daily lives.

  4. I like the progression from the unrhymed lines at the beginning, from the gentle betrayal, the castaway times and things that never made sense, to the rhyming final lines, the release in the sound of ‘remains/refrains/chains’ and the idea that sleep offers some escape but also binds us to our dreams.

  6. release, at sleep and waking, and imprisoned each time, cycles between, sufficient is the longing for the reprieved. the paradox of sleep and stillness, REM imprisoned muscles cannot act, but the brain just likes to demonstrate it does not need any of that really, really? Real -eeee. Real easy.
